Vauxhall Astra H (mk 5) Hazzard Lights Flashing or Interior Light Staying On

Astra H Hazzard Lights & Airbag Light On

If you own a Vauxhall Astra H and have the problems of the hazzard lights flashing every time you turn on the ignition or start the vehicle then this is a warning telling you that your vehicle is in crash mode.

It is highly likely that at some time your vehicle has been damaged or you may be repairing your own damaged repairable vehicle.

Accompanied with this problem is often an issue with the interior lights remaining lit and draining the vehicles battery. If your interior courtesy lights or airbag warning light don't work at all then it's highly likely the bulbs have been removed.

We have also experienced other problems relating to crash mode such as central locking problems and also electric windows not functioning correctly. It would seem that once an Astra H has been involved in an accident no matter how minor, then the supplementary restraint system or S.R.S (airbag system) records the impact and this can have strange effects on some body functions of the vehicle.

When an Astra H is involved in an accident the airbag system will automatically:

* Trigger hazzard lights to flash to warn other road users of a danger ahead

* Turn on the interior lighting to assist occupants in escaping from the vehicle

* Unlock the doors again to assist occupants escape or so rescue services can access the vehicle quickly & easily

So you can see why some of the body functions become confused when trying to reinstate the vehicle if it is still in crash mode.

If you have purchased an Astra H and inherited this problem then you should also be aware that it's quite possible the vehicle airbag system has not been repaired properly, we quite often find cars that still have deployed seatbelt pre-tensioners and in some cases airbags missing where deployed airbags have been removed from the car but have not been replaced.

The first step to rectifying your airbag issues is to have your airbag module unlocked from crash mode & have all the fault codes erased, the procedure is known as airbag module resetting & our postal repair services offer great value.

Because the module is locked in crash mode and it contains crash data, this procedure can only be performed on the bench with specialist equipment, normal diagnostic equipment connected through the OBD port cannot usually perform this task.

Vauxhall Astra Airbag Module

If you post your original deployed airbag module in for repair then the crash data can be removed and the module can be reset. This will resolve your interior light problem and stop your hazzard lights from flashing when you turn on the ignition, both courtesy lighting & hazzard lights will function properly. If you have other electrical problems relating to body functions such as electric windows or central locking , these may also start to function properly again, however these may require further investigation once the airbag system is repaired.

Airbag module resetting costs only £45 + p&p which is a huge saving against the cost of a new airbag module from the main dealers which with parts, labour, programming & VAT can typically cost £500 - £1000.

You can order airbag module resetting services from our website - all Vauxhall & Opel Astra H modules are covered so you don't need to check your part number.

If everything except the airbag module is ok on your cars airbag system, then once you re-connect your 'reset' airbag module the airbag light will go out. However, if you have remaining issues like deployed seatbelts or airbags missing then of course the airbag light will remain lit until you have rectified these other faults but the hazzrad and interior light problems will be cured.

To have your Astra airbag module reset you simply need to order the postal repair service, then remove and post your module in for repair.

How To Remove Your Astra H Airbag Module

1) Disconnect the battery earth lead

2) Remove the rear cup holder from the back of the centre console by pulling it upwards, slide both front seats fully forward & unscrew the two torx screws going through either side of the console by leaning into the rear footwells.

3) With a deep 10mm socket, unscrew the x3 10mm retaining dome nuts that bolt the module to the floor & by wiggling the console tip the module onto it's side.

4) Release the first multiplug by sliding the yellow security clip outwards with a flat bladed screw driver then twist the module the opposite way to do the same to the second multiplug connector. As you slide the yellow security clip the multiplug will start to unplug itself & slide out of the airbag module plug.

5) Lift module from the vehicle (refit in reverse order).
