Indie-O Music Awards 2010

When the Indie-O Music Awards first surfaced, numerous members of Mexico’s independent music scene breathed a sigh of at last. The awards kicked off in 2008 recognizing members of that independent community which now in its third year, has quickly gained weight as one of the most important indie rock events of the republic.

Come May 26, numerous musicians and music-goers will congregate once more to experience the scheduled live event performances and to witness the disbursement of the coveted feather award.

This year’s awards include a fan fare of double dipping with psychedelic band, Furland, nominated in six categories: Best Album Packaging/Art Work, Band of the Year, Song of the Year for “Quiero ser un Color”, Best Album Uncertain Category, Best Rock Album and Best Music Video. Enjambre is nominated in three categories including Best Rock Album, Song of the Year and Best New Producer (Julián Navejas: Enjambre: El Segundo es Felino), and off-the wall rockers, Vicente Gayo, are up for Best Live Act, Best New Artist, Band of the Year and Best New Producer (Erick Espartacus: Vicente Gayo – Vicente Gayo).

Although the 2010 ceremony is welcoming event veterans to the stage such as Hello Seahorse!, it is also embracing new artists such as songstress Carla Morrison whose Best Solo Album nomination serves as the artists’ first music award nomination of her career. Morrison’s Aprendiendo a Aprender album is up against heavy weights Ely Guerra’s Hombre Invisible, and Ceci Bastida’s Veo la Marea, to name a few.
