The City of Alvin is pleased to provide an update on the status of its acquisition of the Thelma Ley Anderson YMCA.  Final documentation for the acquisition of the facility is scheduled for signing on March 18th, marking the transfer of ownership to the city.

After World War II, Alvin veterans who came home and wanted a place to meet, decided to build a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall. A piece of property, located on South Douglas Street was donated by Bob Owens, one the veterans in the group. Thus, VFW Post 5237 was born.
