Acupuncture and Psychotherapy

Robbie Breadon PhD, Adv Lic Ac, MBAcC, AHPP (Accredited Psychotherapist), UKCP(reg)

Robbie BreadonI grew up in Co Fermanagh, N Ireland where my family ran a farm and the local country store. My passion as a young man was biology and this led me to Queens University in Belfast and onto Warwick University to complete a PhD in molecular microbiology.

Since 1984 I have explored and experienced many approaches to working with people on levels of body, mind and spirit. I changed career in 1988 and trained initially in Shiatsu and then in Traditional Acupuncture.

I have had a private practice since 1989 and have taken it into corporate and private clinic settings. I was on the teaching faculty at the College of Traditional Acupuncture from 1992 to 1999. I have been supervising acupuncture practitioners since 1995.

My interest in the therapeutic relationship and my own journey of personal development led me to train in Humanistic Psychotherapy. Between 1991 and 2003 I went to Spectrum, a centre for humanistic and integrative psychotherapy, which is accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. I have offered psychotherapy in addition to acupuncture since 1996. I have chosen to practice both psychotherapy and acupuncture (though never on the same person) as in my experience these offer the highest degree of holistic healing.

Each therapeutic relationship is unique and the personal qualities that I bring to my work are empathy, patience and creativity. I am ever curious about human nature and strive to understand fully each person I work with. I am a great listener and very empathetic. Another strength is in maintaining good boundaries to create a safe and trustworthy relationship.

I am committed to continuous professional and personal development through regular supervision and ongoing training. I am accredited by Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (AHPP) and abide by their codes of Ethics and Practice. AHPP register me with UKCP. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council.
