Pretty good news from CMP on the Ammo front. Plenty of the excellent Greek HXP coming in soon for your Garand. .30 Carbine from Aguila already in. This is good stuff for your war baby. (As good as you can find in bulk any way)

LATEST CMP AMMO and Garand SALES NEWS:

.308 AMMO AVAILABLE ON ESTORE. We currently have several different loads of .308 ammo listed at the "ammo" tab on the Estore at https://estore.odcmp.com. Quantities in each category are very small and we expect to sell out of all of them soon. Once an item is sold out, it drops off the Estore.

MORE .30-06 HXP AMMO SOON: Our most recent purchase of HXP ammunition began arriving on Feb 17, 2010. It will take another 4-5 weeks before the full shipment is received. Until we actually receive the entire shipment, we will not know what packaging configurations will be available or the amount of each configuration. We do not yet know what our final cost will be. We do know that the quantity is large enough to satisfy our customer needs for several years. We will not accept any pre-orders or establish a waiting list. Thanks for your support and patience. We expect to again begin accepting orders by the end of March, 2010.

.30 CARBINE AMMO NOW AVAILABLE: We have received enough Aguila .30 carbine ammo to fill all backorders and still have a large quantity of ammo in inventory. We are now again accepting orders for .30 carbine ammo - item 438A. See the "ammo" tab on the Estore https://estore.odcmp.com.

CARBINE MAGAZINES STILL AVAILABLE: see item PS103 under the "Parts Surplus" tab on https://estore.odcmp.com.

M1D SERVICE GRADE NOW AVAILABLE. We are now accepting orders for the M1D Service grade. $1,500. See the Garand page at www.thecmp.org. Other grades of the M1D are not available at this time, but we do expect to have some towards the end of 2010.

CORRECT GRADE AVAILABLE. (these are excellent weapons...I have a couple of correct grades) We have accumulated several hundred "Correct Grade" Springfield Armory M1 Garand rifles and are accepting orders. See the "Garand" tab on www.thecmp.org.

BAYONET UPDATE. We have not yet received the expected shipment of Garand bayonets, but do expect to have some available for purchase by the end of April 2010.M1

GARAND CLEANING RODS NOW ON ESTORE. Cleaning rods for the M1 stock butt trap are now available at the "parts surplus" tab on https://estore.odcmp.com. Item numbers are PS105; PS106, and PS107.Thank you for your support and patience. If you are looking for .30 Carbine ammo, there are cheaper places to get it. Right now www.aimsurplus.com has .30 Carbine for $19/50 and you can buy individual boxes. Sometimes CMP's deal aren't the best....and this way you don't have to wait forever.

Good to know. AIM is good people. A few months ago when carbine ammo was almost impossible to find CMP was selling it at half the price others were asking.

Hmm. This page plus some Googling has made me interested in putting a new match barrel on my mixmaster Garand and turning it into a repro M1D. If I can find a competent gunsmith up this way.

If you haven't already you might consider asking about a local Garand smith on the CMP Garand Forum http://www.odcmp.org/new_forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=33

There is also a huge amount of Garand history, information and advice on Jouster. (the Culver's Shooting Page) Check out the Forums, you can ask about a smith there as well. The Sea Stories Section alone is worth the visit. http://www.jouster.com/ Be sure and read Jouster Tales and The Saga of the M16. Hell read all the Sea Stories. They are great.

Dick Culver is a real piece of work. Kinda reminds me of M4's if he was a mud Marine with a picture.

I had stopped by the CMP south store in Anniston Al on the way back from hanging out with nittany. It was cool but didnt really see anything which tickled my fancy although it would have been a great stop before I had bought the 1903, M1 and M1 Carbine. Having a collectors grade Garand has really spoiled me since most of the ones they had there looked a bit rough. Didnt feel like adding a krag to the collection.
