The most significant difference is that cast metal letters have more depth than flat cut-out metal letters. Cast metal letters are hollow in the back, so you’re not paying for all the material that won't be seen anyway. Cast metal letters are available in over fifty font styles and standard sizes, whereas flat cut metal has unlimited sizes and fonts. Otherwise, both cast metal and flat cut letters have the same mineral properties and finish selections.
There are 26 distinct steps. First, skilled artisans pour molten metal into a mold cast. It is shot blasted, degated, and belt sanded in preparation for finishing. The cast metal characters are turned over, drilled, and tapped for stud mounting hardware used during your installation. Next, the letter is bead-blasted to make it precise and smooth, and then stroke sanded to give it a natural satin finish. The letters are then coated with a two-part hardened acrylic polyurethane clear coat, then sent to an oven for baking.
We can make custom logos, fonts, and graphics with cast aluminum or bronze. Custom fonts and logos are priced by size and a mold setup fee. The mold is tooled to make many impressions of your same logo. Cast metal can come in different color selections and material finishes. Send us vector-based artwork of your font or logo, and can quickly provide the pricing on many options of colors and finishes.

We can create your cast metal letters from aluminum or bronze. Bronze is harder and lasts longer than aluminum but is more expensive. We use Bronze Alloy C22000, a superior metal for sign letters because of its strength and hardness. The bronze alloy has a pleasing color and develops a beautiful patina over time. The Aluminum Alloy 5052 that we use also provides excellent strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance. It is easily formed for sign letters and can be anodized for coloration.
The beauty of natural metal is one of the benefits of cast sign letters. However, your building’s architecture or company’s brand might require specific colors. Cast metal letters can be painted or chemically treated. We spray automotive acrylic polyurethane paint on the metal letter, which is then oven-baked. The grain texture is seen through the gloss paint. We offer 46 standard colors and can also custom match Pantone colors and sheens.
Anodizing is an electrochemical process that makes the aluminum skin harder and changes its color. The aluminum can be pigmented and will change the color of the sign letters. Anodized aluminum letters are unaffected by UV sunlight, will not crack or peel and perform better in harsh weather environments such as coastal areas.
By their very nature, bronze sign letters will react to oxygen over time and change color to a greenish patina. The bronze patina will vary from letter to letter depending on temperature and humidity. Bronze sign letters can be chemically oxidized, then hand-rubbed to produce an antique look to the sign letter face.
Our handy online sign design tool allows you to customize your cast metal letters and numbers, preview font styles, and calculate sign dimensions. We offer seven metal finishes that give you the choice of dazzling shine, brilliant color, or natural and antiqued metal.
Aluminum and bronze are not iron-based metals, so neither will rust. Cast metal letters will oxidize, so they need a chemical treatment to increase their hardness and corrosion resistance to hold up to ocean weather.
Cast metal sign letters are installed with studs into a wall. Aluminum and bronze letters are heavier than plastic, so they must be stud mounted and glued. We recommend a mounting template that shows the outline of each character, spacing between letters, and hand-punched hole locations of each stud showing where to drill. Once taped to the wall, holes are then drilled and filled with adhesive.
When installing our cast metal letters using the stud mount method, you can add shims or spacers to increase the distance from the wall. Cast metal letters have more depth than flat cut-out metal letters and are hollow in the back, so you’re not paying for all the material that won’t be seen anyway.
It takes seven to ten business days to produce cast metal sign letters. There are up to twenty-six distinct steps to make cast metal letters that require time, heat, and pressure. To produce the highest quality sign letters that include a lifetime guarantee, we cannot skip or rush through any of the steps.
You can design your cast metal sign letters online and instantly view all of our font styles, colors, finishes, and sizes. The online designer will provide the exact price and approximate dimensions of your sign letters. We provide a detailed drawing during the production process showing the exact dimensions and product description. We are happy to answer questions and make any changes to your satisfaction.
Cast metal building sign letters are hollow on the back, which helps reduce weight. While aluminum is lighter than bronze, all our cast metal letters are light and easy to handle – yet strong, durable, and guaranteed for life.
