How can counselling help me?
Do I have to have a referral from my GP?
No, prospective clients can simply call Aberdeen Counselling Practice directly to seek an appointment.
How are we supervised?
We all work to either the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) code of conduct and ethics, or those of Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA). To become, and remain, accredited by either BACP or COSCA, there is a requirement that we receive adequate supervision. For this reason and, indeed, for our personal and professional development and regulation, we undertake supervision on a regular basis with a qualified, external, supervisor. Names and identifiable information and facts about clients are not disclosed. The purpose of supervision is to ensure we provide clients with a safe, therapeutic environment.

Counselling aims to provide an environment which is safe, confidential and non-judgemental. The therapeutic relationship between you and the counsellor offers you the opportunity to explore and make sense of issues affecting your life.
How much will it cost?
A one-to-one session is £40. A session with a couple is £50 per session. Rates for corporate clients are negotiable according to needs.
Is it confidential?
The relationship between the client and the counsellor is completely confidential with certain legal exceptions which we would explain to you at the first session. We work to the BACP/COSCA Code of Ethics.
How often do I need to come?
A session will last for 50 minutes and it is helpful for sessions to take place weekly at a time to suit you, although we will work to accommodate your needs.
How long will it take?
Counselling focuses on the needs of the individual and so varies from client to client. Some people may require only a short number of sessions whilst for others this process may take longer.
