May 4th General Assembly Election Results!

Here is some information from various sources on some of the key races from the May 4th Primary Election:

  • Only two incumbents were defeated – State Representative Bill Ruppel and State Representative Jacque Clements.

  • State Representative Jackie Walorski chose to run for the U.S. Congress rather than run for re-election to the Indiana House of Representatives.  She won the Republican nomination for the 2nd Congressional District on May 4th.  Timothy Wesco won the Republican nomination for the seat Walorski is giving up in Northern Indiana.

  • In House District 67 located in Southeast Indiana around Greensburg, businessman and fireman Randy Frye won a hotly contested seven-way race for the Republican nomination to succeed retiring State Representative Cleo Duncan.  This was a very close race won by Frye by less than 200 votes!
  • Five Republican State Representatives who were thought to possibly be in close races easily won their party’s nomination on May 4th.  They are:  State Representatives Woody Burton, Don Lehe, Dan Leonard, Jack Lutz and Dave Wolkins.
  • Senator Gary Dillon chose to retire in 2010.  Jim Banks won the Republican nomination for District 17 on May 4th.

  • In a case of musical chairs, Democrat Senator Bob Dieg chose to run for State Representative District 76 rather than seek re-election to the State Senate.  This is the seat currently held by Democrat State Representative Trent Van Haaften who is running as the Democrat nominee for Congress from the 8th Congressional District.  The individual running for Senator Dieg’s Senate seat is the wife of outgoing State Representative Dennis Avery, Patty Avery.  It truly is a case of musical chairs in Southwest Indiana!

Keep Your Eye on The Indiana House of Representatives!

The Indiana House of Representatives is currently made up of 52 Democrats and 48 Republicans.  The Speaker of the House is Representative Pat Bauer of South Bend.

Millions of dollars will be spent by candidates and political parties to win control of the House of Representatives.  Enormous amounts of money will be spent on radio and television ads along with direct mail efforts.  How will Hoosiers know where the candidates really stand on key issues affecting their family, their church, their business, their freedoms and their future

Advance America will once again provide the facts about where the candidates really stand!
