Hammerpond Kennels & Cattery are currently seeking an Assistant Manager to help in the running of a very busy Boarding Kennel.

We are situated in Horsham/Hands Cross, located in an idyllic countryside setting, and we are a family run business. The successful applicant will be responsible for the efficient and safe running of the kennel where the highest standards of care and hygiene must be maintained. The role will be varied, covering every aspect of Kennel management.

You will be joining a friendly, and extremely hard-working team. This is a varied role and requires someone with common sense, who is committed and driven to fulfil the needs of the animals we care for, and who also must have excellent interpersonal skills.

Due to the nature of the work, we need a mature individual, who has experience working with animals, and dealing with the general public and other professional organisations. Health and safety is of utmost importance, so you need to adhere to the policies and procedures we have set in place.

We are looking for a responsible, focused and disciplined person, who must be able to work individually and as a team member, FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS. Ideally you will be able to work MONDAYS AND TUESDAY, but this is negotiable. The hours are 8am-12pm and 3pm-6pm, but you MUST be flexible covering extra hours where necessary.

The care of the animals is fundamental to this role, and you must be happy to stay on in busy periods where there are animals that still need looking after. IF YOU AREN'T FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTABLE PLEASE DO NOT APPLY; we need your heart to be fully in the job!

• Have a good presence and be a people person with excellent interpersonal skills
• Be confident in a customer facing role and dealing with people on a one on one basis
• Be literate with reasonable grammar
• Be smart, presentable and professional
• Have a genuine love of animals
• Be punctual and reliable
• Be responsible to use your own initiative, but be able to liaise and communicate information with your colleagues
• Have basic computer skills
• Have a disciplined approach to working
• Be confident when working with animals and people

General day to day tasks will include:

• Ensuring the animals are looked after
• Cleaning out the kennels
• Monitoring the animals
• Recording information regarding the animals' welfare
• Taking bookings
• Basic filling and administration duties
• Administering Medication
• Assisting in Rehoming for stray and abandoned dogs
• Organising and supervising kennel staff and work experience volunteers
• Collection of strays within the local areas

This is a varied role with a high amount of responsibility. You must be willing to muck in on all areas to ensure the Kennels are run smoothly and efficiently.

Applicants MUST have a driving licence and access to their own vehicle. You must NOT be frightened of animals!

This position will be offered on a trial period basis of up to 6 months, to be reviewed after this time.
