Web 2.0 Marketing With The Monkees And A Daydream Believer

Fresh CoffeeMaria Reyes-McDavis introduced me to a new term this week, Cross Blog Conversations.

She in turn picked it up from Lynne Terry

In a nut shell it refers to asking a question, or joining in a conversation with other bloggers in much the same way as you would in the comments section of a blog, but in a blog post where you actually link to the other blog.

I had been doing this for a while, but hadn’t realized that there was a name for it!

As a means of getting your blog ‘out there’, it is second to none.

“Conversation marketing” has a lot in common with, and indeed is probably part of attraction marketing.

Quite simply, using ‘Attraction Marketing’ to promote your blog or your product simply means being open, and real, and letting people get to know you.

Another way of saying it is ‘by being a good cyber citizen’.

This can be on Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin or any other social networking site, as well as on your own blog or website.

Web 2.0 is simply about relationship building and networking online, the same as we do offline.

Now, what’s this all got to do with the Monkees?

Nothing much, apart from the fact that a lot of marketers tend to try and use list building methods on Facebook and other sites, and then wonder why they don’t work!

That’s not really what social networking is about, and getting the two confused and thinking that it will work is sort of like being a daydream believer.

Besides, I like the Monkees, and have to appease the ‘inner bopper’ every now and again…

The MonkeesThe Monkees

The Monkees: a group that was created Los Angeles in 1965 for a television series of the same name.

Running from from 1966 to 1968, the TV show helped make the Monkees one of the most popular music acts of the decade.

The group members were Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Micky Dolenz.

After the group disbanded in 1971, Dolenz and Jones continued touring together for most of the 1970s.

A number of reunions have taken place over the years, the most recent being a Dolenz-Jones-Tork lineup which toured in 2001, then Dolenz-Jones in 2002.

Daydream BelieverAbout daydream Believer

“Daydream Believer” was composed by John Stewart, formerly of the Kingston Trio.

It was originally recorded with Davy Jones singing lead vocals.

Chip Douglas introduced the Monkees to the song, and produced it as well.

Hitting the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in December 1967, and remaining there for four weeks, the song was the Monkees’s last number one hit.

The song was part of their 1968 album The Birds, The Bees & the Monkees.

Michael Nesmith played lead guitar, Peter Tork played piano as well as doing the arrangement.

Micky Dolenz sang backing vocals.

In 1986, three of the four Monkees (Dolenz, Jones, and Tork) mounted a successful reunion tour, and “Daydream Believer” was re-released.

The re-released single was a minor hit the second time out.

Daydream Believer: The Lyrics!

Oh, I could hide neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o’clock alarm would never ring.
Whoops its ringing and I rise,
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shavin’ razor’s cold and it stings.

Cheer up, sleepy jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

You once thought of me
As a white knight on a steed.
Now you know how happy I can be.
Oh, and our good times starts and end
Without dollar one to spend.
But how much, baby, do we really need.

Cheer up, sleepy jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
Cheer up, sleepy jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

Cheer up, sleepy jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
