Paul Rodgers In Concert

Wow, what a week. Three concerts in 5 days and all for free, I guess you could say I have had a very lucky week. Last night my buddy Buzzard and I went to the K97 2nd annual Rock Riot featuring local band China White (missed em'),80's Canadian band Loverboy (missed em') never did like them, and headliner Paul Rodgers, he of Free,Bad Company,Firm and short stint as Queen vocalist fame. This was my second time seeing Paul Rodgers in concert (last time being 1995 at The Thunderdome).

While I have never really been a big fan of Bad Company, I have to say that live their songs sound pretty damn good actually. Now Free, that's a different story, I have always liked them. Paul was sounding and looking good last night for a guy that has been doing this for 40 some years. For a guy that is 60 some years old, the man has still got an awesome voice. His back up band was nothing special but then with Paul on vocals it didn't much matter.

The set he did was well mixed with classic Free songs like "All Right Now", have always liked that song, and the Free song "Wishing Well" went over really good. He also belted out classic rock staples like "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Can't Get Enough", now I have never really liked them songs, I have to admit they sounded good and the crowd of a few thousand ate it up. The Bad Company songs he played that I do like and sounded good as well were "Rock n' Roll Fantasy" and "Shooting Star". I don't believe he played any songs from his 80's band Firm in which Jimmy Page of Zeppelin fame was in, but I could be wrong as the night wore on, I was starting to get a pretty good buzz on. As for Queen, not sure if he did any of them either.

I had a really good time at the show and big thanks to my girlfriend Janis for picking up the tickets for me and a thanks as well to local classic rock station K97.

I would give the Paul Rodgers performance a 7.5 out of 10. Good times!!!
