Facial Acupuncture

Facial Acupuncture (Cosmetic Acupuncture)

Facial Acupuncture often known as Cosmetic Acupuncture, aims at bringing natural beauty to the surface. It is a non-surgical, non-chemical procedure and works by stimulating blood circulation and the production of collagen. It has been practised in China since the Sung Dynasty (960 A.D.) with records showing women of the elite upper classes receiving treatments.

Facial acupuncture treatment focuses on points on the face whilst points on the arms and legs are also used to help rebalance any internal disharmonies that may affect the face and complexion. It therefore follows the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine and treats the person on a holistic basis – body, mind and emotions. By treating in this way, the expectation is that the person is more inclined to make lifestyle changes to enhance the effects, such as improving dietary habits, increasing exercise, or quitting smoking. Once we feel good about ourselves, many things change for the better.

The treatment :

An initial consultation is taken in much the same way as for acupuncture and advice is formulated according to the individual’s circumstances. A course generally consists of 10 to 12 sessions, ideally a week or so apart. Each person responds differently, depending on life events and lifestyle prior to acupuncture. Following the initial course, maintenance sessions help prolong the effects.

A treatment will involve the use of very fine, single-use, pre-sterilised, disposable needles at points and muscles in the face with the aim of improving the elasticity of the skin and general overall appearance. Needles will also be used on specific points on the arms and legs in order to affect the face and rebalance the person. This is followed by applying gentle guasha to the face and neck and a facial massage.
