Huaorani Girls Bathing

As illustrated in this photograph, Huaorani girls are extremely happy and joyous.  These Huaorani (sometimes spelled Waorani) girls and women live in small traditional communities, unspoiled by the material goods of western society.  Living away from large cities, their lifestyle is much different and social relationships very much contrast with those of outsiders.  The only way to survive in the difficult environment of the Amazon Rainforest is to work together, hence, their strong societal bonds.  Interestingly, Huaorani girls are not as prolific as neighboring ethnic groups such as the Kichwa tribe with respect to bearing children, perhaps reflecting their lifestyle as being more hunter-gatherers, rather than sedentary agriculturalists whose resources are less limited and may allow for more offspring.
