Paddle Sports

The Activate Team owns a fleet of twenty kayaks and four Canadian canoes. All the boats and allied equipment is modern and well maintained. The kayaks come in a wide range of sizes to suit all. The four Canadian canoes are three person boats and are suitable for D of E expeditions.

The team also have a good stock of clean rafting barrels for traditional Scout raft building.

All the above boats can be hired using your own instructors or the team has a number of BCU Coaches and Scout Authorised Instructors available.

Our coaching team support a number of different activities over the year including the following

• BCU 1 and 2 star courses (canoe and kayak)
• Expedition training
• River runs
• Leader Training (see Paddle Weekend & Barmouth Weekend)
• Indoor swimming pool sessions (see winter pool sessions)

Climbing and Abseiling

We have a good stock of up to date and well maintained climbing equipment including a stock of climbing boots for use on the more advanced courses.

Again the equipment can be hire with your own staff or the Activate Team can provide qualified instructors to run your sessions for you. At the indoor wall, on the outdoor tower or at the natural rock crag we can provide you with a great climbing session to suit your group’s ability.

The Teams climbing instructors regularly operate at various manmade walls around the county and run regular sessions at “local” crags. We provide for all ages from fun sessions for Beaver Scouts to instructor training for Leaders.

We also run the regular sessions for Explorer Scouts and leaders via our Climbers Clubs which now runs all through the year (details).

Archery and Shooting

At present the Activate Team has a small but dedicated team of both shooting and archery instructors. We have a well equipped shooting team who can offer sessions at a varity of venues using air rifles and pistols. The archery team do not own their own equipment yet (watch the space folks we are getting there) but they can still offer sessions at a number of venues around the County.

Boating

The Team can offer instruction in a variety of boating activities –

• Pulling (rowing)
• Power boating
• Narrow boating
• Sailing

Boats and equipment for these activities are available from the Teams own stock or resourced in. Our instructors in these areas are only too happy to provide a variety of programme opportunities for your members.

D Of E Expeditions

The Activate Team carries a small stock of expedition equipment including: -

• Lightweight tents
• Various lightweight camping stoves
• Cycle panniers for bike expeditions
