Having a demonstration robotic system there, some of the students were able to sit down and experience the robot and feel how easy the system is to use.

Highland Park High School

Dr. Salter took the da Vinci robotic surgical system to the Highland Park High School Science Festival to show students how the robotic system is used for surgery. He discussed with students interested in medicine as a career how to channel their interests to benefit people in the future. They also discussed the history of robotic surgery, how the robotic system is currently used in different surgical specialties and the future of robotic surgery. At the end of each session, the students had the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with the robotic system and try using some of the virtual training programs on the robot’s computer simulator.
