Sister For Sale

For Sale
by Shel Silverstein

One sister for sale!
One sister for sale!
One crying and spying young sister for sale!
I'm really not kidding,
So who'll start the bidding?

Do I hear a dollar?
A nickel?
A penny?
Oh, isn't there, isn't there, isn't there any
One kid who will buy this old sister for sale,
This crying and spying young sister for sale?

Diddles is my child. I thought she would somehow be different from Boo and Yaks, and spare us all from the fussy, inconsolable wailing that occurs in the evenings (and all night long last night). It comes right at the moment that I need to pick up the house, deal with grumpy, tired kids, and get dinner started. We bounce, we rock, we hum and chant, we nurse and nurse and NURSE, but nothing helps. There are moments that I want to throw myself out the window, but then she gives up and falls asleep. The little darling. My one comfort is that like morning sickness, it will pass.

It will pass...

Oh dear, I'm sorry Amy... you are really making me look forward to motherhood :) I bought this cute little stuft toy called a "sleep sheep". It plays white noise, ocean sounds, and a heart beat... you could look into getting one perhaps. I can't tell you that it works since I have yet to try it out :)

oh amy! I am so sorry! You seem to have such a positive outlook in spite of the throw yourself out the window comment. And since we all seem to be dispensing advice, have you been to a chiropractor with Diddles? I have an uncle who adjusted colic-y babies all the time.

I can relate, Amy. I have had quite a few like Diddles. Hang in there. It will pass!
