WW1, Imperial German, Mauser G98, 7.92mm Calibre, Nickel Plated Parade/Ceremonial Infantry Rifle. **EU 2024 DEACTIVATION**. - D 5980
This is an excellent WW1 ceremonial/ parade nickel plated Imperial German Army G98 infantry rifle. The nickel plating is old and dulled with age giving it a pleasing appearance. The rifle has all of its original woodwork and metalwork with a steel butt plate. The walnut stock has an old polished finish to it with just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use. Due to the rifle being nickel plated, the stampings are feint with the preparation for nickel plating but at the top of the breech can be seen E U (ERFURT) and below that the number 1 which was part of the date. The rifle has a block & blade foresight, adjustable rear sight, bayonet slide, cleaning rod & both sling swivels. The rifle is serial number 1157. The left side of the butt has a regimental disc which is stamped 74LT (74 Infantry (1st Hanover) Regiment) 3.26. The rifle was deactivated to EU specification in 2024 and the bolt moves and locks. SOLD SOLD (21/03) Webley MK VI .455 Calibre Service Revolver With Open Cylinders & Over Bored Barrel, Inert Deactivated Rounds & Sam Browne Leather Holster Captain Walter Swaby MC Lincolnshire Regt With Research Dossier*VERY EARLY UK 1991 DEACT* - 21555
Captain Walter Swaby MC born 10/01/1893 in Lincolnshire joined the Lincolnshire Regiment in 1914 shortly after hostilities commenced, after training he and the Regiment were shipped to France and the Regiment saw much action. While serving as 2nd Lieutenant the Officer was awarded the Military Cross for an act of exemplary gallantry during active operations against the enemy, when he extricated his men from his advanced posts under heavy machine gun fire, while arranging covering fire (London Gazette 20/9/18). The Officer moved through the ranks to become a Captain. Later in the war, in Northern France the Officer was wounded in action by shell fragments which eventually led to his medical discharge shortly after the war ended. This is an excellent, original, WW1 dated British Officer's MK VI .455 calibre Service Revolver with inert rounds & holster named to the officer. The pistol has open cylinders that will accept inert rounds. Matching numbers '408441' are stamped on the cylinder, barrel and frame. On the right side of the frame it is stamped ' Webley Mark VI Patents' with 1918 date. It has other WD proof/ inspection marks on its frame & trigger guard. The pistol has its original finely chequered Bakelite grips marked ‘M’ (Medium grip size) and Lanyard ring. The grips are undamaged. Deactivated to very early UK specification in 1991 the pistol cocks & dry fires and has open cylinders that will accept inert rounds and an open over bored barrel. The pistol comes with 6 inert deactivated rounds of .455 calibre ammunition. It is complete with an original brown leather Sam Browne holster in which it was found. It has a full flap cover with single brass stud. It has a large rear belt loop with original brass bar. The inside of the flap has contemporary hand written Officer’s name & Regiment designation ‘2 Lt W. Swaby Lincoln Regt’ (indicating this holster was with the Officer when he took the action meriting award of his MC). All leather and stitching of the holster are intact. The set comes with a comprehensive dossier of documents detailing The Lincolnshire Regiment’s History, Captain Swaby’s antecedents & military career including actions he was involved in and copies of service record entries. This is a rare to find pre WW1 dated French Lebel Model 1886 8mm Calibre Service rifle. These rifles were used by the French army during WW1. It has all original wood with just the bumps & bruises to be expected with age and service use. It has adjustable ladder rear sight, block & blade fore sight, steel butt plate, bayonet bar and sling swivels. The left side of the frame is marked with model and manufacturer detail ‘St Etienne Manufacture D’Armes Mle 1886’. The barrel is dated ‘1889’ (all illustrated). The barrel, underside of the action, bolt and wood have all matching numbers 97192. The rifle measures 51” overall length. Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2018 the weapon’s bolt & trigger move. The bayonet comes with illustrated in the images is not included but is available separately. The rifle comes with a period, correct original M1886 Brass Hilt Cruciform Blade Bayonet. The bayonet is clean with a 20 ½” cruciform blade which is straight and tapers to a pin sharp point. The brass hilt has the correct curved quillon muzzle ring and knurled lever button release catch which works as it should. An original British WW1 1917 MK III* Brass Trench/ Signal Flare Pistol With flared muzzle by the Wolseley Motor Co. The pistol has a 5 ½” barrel with Flared muzzle & slab wood grips which have just light bumps and bruises to be expected. The pistol has manufacturer's name, Model and War Department inspection stamps on the left side of its frame together with '1917' date (all illustrated). It also has serial number '1284' on its right side. The pistol is complete with military lanyard ring. Deactivated to UK specification in 1990, the original certificate was lost at some point in its life and a replacement UK deactivation certificate issued in 2024. This deactivated pistol breaks open as it should & it cocks & dry fires. The price includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery. Webley’s No.1 New Model RIC revolvers were advertised by the Army & Navy Stores in 1881, by October 1884 serial numbers had exceeded 60300. These revolvers differed from earlier models by having a fluted cylinder & modified extractor. Made in a variety of calibres, they were supplied to the Royal Irish Constabulary, the British Military and Foreign Armies & Police Forces throughout the World (see page 68 Figure IV/33 of Webley Revolvers By Bruce & Reinhart). This is an excellent original example of the RIC No.1, New Model revolver. It has a 4 ½” barrel and measures 10 ¼” overall with a closed military frame. It has the correct fluted cylinder. The left side of the frame is marked with ‘Webley's R.I.C No.1 .476CF’ name & model detail together with the Webley 'winged bullet' legend and struck out number '71024'. The frame is also numbered ‘1264’. The top of the frame is crisply marked 'P. Webley & Son London & Birmingham'. The metal work and finely chequered walnut grips are undamaged with even patina throughout. Deactivated to early UK specification in 1990, the pistol cocks and dry fires in both single & double action (Its side gate loading plate and ejector have been fixed in place during the deactivation process and do not move). The revolver is fitted with Military / Police lanyard ring. The pistol comes with an original period British Sam Browne type brown leather holster. Made of quality leather hide, the holster is undamaged with all stitching intact. It has a full flap cover, single retaining strap with brass stud fastener and a belt loop with brass hanging bar on the rear. There are no maker or date marks on the holster. This is an excellent, original World War 1 dated British WD Officer's MK VI .455 calibre Service Revolver. It is serial number 372578 which is stamped on the barrel, frame & cylinder. On the right side of the frame it is crisply stamped 'Webley Mark VI Patents' and dated ‘1918’. It has WD proof/ inspection marks on its frame and ‘Mark VI’. The pistol has its original finely chequered Bakelite grips and Lanyard ring. Deactivated to early UK specification in 1996 the pistol’s barrel is open and over bored and the cylinders are blocked. The pistol cocks and dry fires in both single & double action. The Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless is a self-loading, semi-automatic pistol designed by John Browning and built by Colt Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless is a variant introduced five years later in .380 ACP calibre. Approximately 570,000 Colt Pocket Hammerless pistols were produced in different variants from 1903 to 1945. Some were issued to US Army and US Air Force General officers through the 1970s. The pistol measures just under 7” overall with a 3 ¾” barrel. It has a safety catch which locks the slide and nice undamaged grips with the iconic 'Colt' legend and 'Rearing Colt' emblem. The metal work has even patina with just scuffs to be expected to the blue finish. The left of the slide is nicely stamped with the Colt , Hartford, CT, USA address and 1897-1903 patent details together with the 'rearing Colt' logo. The pistol’s serial number is 85658 which is in the serial number range for 1911-1912 production. The right of the slide is stamped ' Colt Automatic Calibre .380 Hammerless'. Deactivated to early UK specification in 1996 the pistol cocks and dry fires and the magazine can be removed. The British Officer’s brown leather holster has a full flap cover with single brass stud and has a retaining strap with eyelet stitched to the body. The rear belt loop is crisply impressed with manufacturer’s roundel ‘Army & Navy CSL London’. All leather and stitching are clean & intact. The price includes deactivation certificate & UK delivery. This is an excellent WW1 1917 dated SMLE No.1 Mk III* .303 calibre rifle deactivated to UK specification in June 1996. The rifle has good condition woodwork throughout together with nice clear date & manufacturer's stamps. The breech is stamped at the wrist GR with King’s Crown BSA Co 1917 SHT L.E III*. The rifle is complete with stripper clip loading bridge, winged fore sight and adjustable rear sight with wing protectors. The rifle also has a brass butt plate with trap and original webbing sling. Deactivated to UK specification in 1996, the rifle cocks, strips and dry fires and the magazine can be removed. The rifle is serial number G68450 which is stamped on the breech. The rifle comes with an original British WW1, 1918 dated Pattern 1907 bayonet complete with its scabbard and webbing frog. The ricasso of the bayonet is stamped by the manufacturer Wilkinson and King’s Crown together 1907 (pattern) and 9 18 (September 1918 date). The reverse is stamped with WD inspection marks. The blade has just light staining consistent with age and its slab wood grips have just the knocks bumps and bruises to be expected. The bayonet is in its original steel mounted leather scabbard. Marlin Model ‘97 Lever Action Takedown Rifle (.22) **UK/EU DEACTIVATION CERTIFICATE** Sn - 21417
This is an excellent Marlin Model ‘97 takedown ever action rifle that was made in .22 calibre. The rifle has a 23 ½” octagonal barrel that retains much of its original blued finish and also a full length tube magazine which also retains most of its original blued finish. The rifle has an ornately engraved steel receiver and slide and is stamped on the tang MARLIN MODEL ‘97. The rifle dates to post 1906, with having 2 screws on the top rear of the receiver for the new Hepburn receiver sight drilled and tapped although the sights were not offered as standard. The rifle measures 40 inches in length and is fitted with a flat shotgun shaped butt plate and a steel fore end cap. The rifle is fitted with a blade foresight with an ivory coloured bead inlet into it and an 2 position flip up rear sight. The top of the barrel in front of the rear sight is stamped with the Marlin firearms and patent numbers. Behind the rear sight is engraved the owners name Charles Mc Shaun. The rifle has excellent woodwork with only minor marks from use. The rifle cocks, the bolt moves forward and back, the hammer & trigger with the lever action. WW1 Era Austrian Kropatschek-Steyr Model 1886 Portuguese Contract Tube Magazine Bolt Rifle. **UK/EU DEACTIVATION CERTIFICATED** - D 5978
Alfred Ritter von Kropatschek (March 30, 1838 - 1911) was a General in the Austrian Army and a weapons designer of the late 19th century, who was responsible for several rifle and revolver designs in affiliation with the Steyr Company; these weapons were used by the armed forces of the Austrian Empire and several other nations. His rifles feature a tubular magazine under the barrel similar to a Winchester rifle. One of his designs was sold to the French Navy, and was later adapted by the French Army. Kropatschek patent weapons were used by the French Army and Navy during the First World War. This is an excellent example of a Portuguese contract Kropatschek Steyr Model 1886 rifle in calibre 8x56R, made by O.E.W.F.G. Steyr. The rifle measures 52" overall with a 32 ¼” barrel. It has an internal, 8 shot tubular magazine and the rifle cocks and dry fires. The rifle has all original undamaged woodwork which has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use. The breech is also stamped on the left hand side Mt 1886. The rifle is complete with correct sling swivels, block and blade fore sight, graduated ladder rear sight, cleaning rod and bayonet lug. The rifle has a feint manufacturers in the left hand side of the stock and is complete with its original brown leather sling. The price includes UK/EU deactivation certificate and UK delivery. D 5977
