Rotorua, New Zealand

Rotorua was our last action stop in New Zealand. Here is where we will have the Xtreme North Island New Zealand Adrenaline tour. Just like in Queens Town you can do Bungy jumps, skydives, Jet boating, and canyon swinging. But why do we want two different locations to do all this scary / crazy stuff? Well for one if you just have a limited amount of time you can take your pick. Auckland and Rotorua in the North or fly in to Wellington (or directly to Queens Town) and do the South Island Adrenaline tour. The other thing is that we now have a New Zealand adrenaline tour that caters for all.

In The South Island it is a good combination between Adrenaline and Partying. And the north island you get a good combination between Adrenaline and Culture.

North Island New Zealand Adrenaline Tour.
We have done it all, so you can ask us firsthand how, what, when, with whom and how scary it is! In Rotorua it stinks of farts, that is the down site. The good side of this is that it is never you, but even if it is you, you can blame the Volcanic activity.
Rotorua is situated on a geothermal field, this town has geysers and bubbling mud pools and some are easily accessible to the public. Rotorua is also famous for its cultural experiences. I have to say that in the South island we did not see a lot of Maori culture and we got very curious about it. We visited an amazing Maori culture show. Yes it is fake, people do not live like the way they show you anymore, but they used to hundreds of years ago and the land it is based on still belongs to Maori families.
You get to know the culture, a bit of the language like Kia Ora and Waka, you get to know the customs like the Hongi and what it means. You get to know the reason why they stick out their tongue and bulge their eyes and wear grass skirts. And most important (well, when you are a back packer) is that you get to know their food! Unlimited Hangi. Food made under the ground cooked by hot stones. Sweet potatoes, lamb (ahhh) & chicken. I really enjoyed the show and getting to know a bit more about Maori people. I especially enjoyed their great sense of humour. New Zealanders are great people in general, and the Maori people are have that sarcastic kind of humor I just Love.

By the way the evening was especially a good laugh because in the bus towards the show Oliver got elected to be the leader and he had too sing and perform during the evening (All I did was shouting: ‘Yes I found him’ when they asked if someone could point out a leader for the group, a man that was strong, smart and very handsome, so actually I was giving him a big compliment).

More culture? Yes!!! We also visited a sheep farm, and this was one of the best things during our visit to the North Island. Huh? Yes, this was so funny, did not laugh that hard for a long time. We will include some videos on our website and blogs to give you an idea.

The landscape around Rotorua is blessed with an abundance of natural features to explore. There are 16 lakes open for fishing, boating and swimming. There is a beautiful forest and mountains to hike and bike and there is the white water river. So we have to include the White water rafting with the highest rapid 5 waterfall you can commercially raft. The raft drops 5 meters from a waterfall….wha, this gets you wet and it also gets your adrenaline pumping, it is something you cannot miss out on, what an exciting (wet) experience. And again I am talking out of experience. The river is the most beautiful I have ever seen!

More adrenaline? Yes! What about the Skydive? Tandem jump out of a plane at 9,000ft, 12,000 ft or (actually this is the only option) at 15,000 ft. The 15,000 feet sky dive above Rotorua lake gives you more than 60 seconds free fall. This means you are flying like a (very fast bird) down to earth for 60 seconds. And yes long before you it the ground your instructor on your back will make sure your parachute goes out and he will land you safely after your landing you will have the biggest groin on your face from the unbelievable experience you just had! You f$%%^&n jumped out of a plane, and loved it! Again? We give discounts on seconds. And to prove you did a skydive in New Zealand you get a personal achievement certification, and off course the pictures and DVD ‘s.

The Company we work with has very high standards and Derek Melnick will tell you all about it in our video. You can also do your Free fall course here. Sascha will be your trainer, he has done over 20.000 tandem jumps.

If you wish more info just drop us an e mail on [email protected].

The ‘motto’ of the skydive company is: I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration (excuse me, I did not know what this means, but it means destruction…nice) I will face my fear. Now Jump!
And then there are the optional activities like jet boating, mountain biking, kayaking, sledging, you can go to a spa, go out for a nice dinner, and visit the museum.

The accommodation? Well this is just the perfect location if you want to be close to the action but not next to a backpackers bar. We work together with Kia Paka Rotorua and they have a good hostel and there are also upgrades to nice en-suite double rooms available. The resort has its own thermally heated pool. A nice restaurant and bar, super friendly personnel, a big communal kitchen and a small lounge area with a big screen TV. If this is not your style and you rather be in the middle of the party scene you can either join the party scene within a 5 minute walk or stay at the central Base backpackers hostel. Your choice, we can arrange both! The Base backpackers hostel has a nice bar!
