The Power Blind Dream

Album Reviews
Yet another band who have found a new lease of life since LTM reissued their back catalogue, Crispy Ambulance have now produced two albums this century to follow up a solitary effort back in 1982. 'The Power Blind Dream' picks up where the relentless 'Scissorgun' left off and probably hits home more effectively with another album of some of the most aggressive music that still manages to avoid labels like "punk" or "metal". Those buzzsawing guitars are particularly ferocious on 'Triphammer' and 'Houses Sinking'. Yet they reach a class of their own on the apocalytpic centrepiece 'Chimera' that segues into their most convincing statement of intent yet; 'Lucifer Rising' is a glorious combination of Gary Madeley's intense drumming, Robert Davenport's jangly Chameleons-aping guitar work and Alan Hempsall's throaty growl. Yet most surprising of all is that the final track features what can only be described as a melody. That apart, the gruelling hour's body of work this unique collective have constructed puts the relatively lacklustre efforts of men half their age to shame.
