Canonsburg seeks funding to address flooding issue

With some help from neighboring Chartiers Township, Canonsburg may have found a way to address flooding on McBurney Road. An area stream flows through Chartiers and onto West Pike Street in Canonsburg, resulting in flooding. “That stream overflows, breaches at the banks, crosses the street and impacts the local businesses,” said council President Rich Russo after Monday’s council meeting. “It’s been a problem for years. We’ve tried to get some money to fund (necessary remediation and repairs).” Needed work includes repiping a side of the stream by McBurney Road. Charleroi to host cleanup Friday

Charleroi will hold its annual cleanup day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday throughout the downtown area. Market House will be used as a staging area as volunteers clean the streets, pick up debris and spruce up planters with fresh topsoil and new plants. The state Department of Transportation provided trash bags, work gloves and safety vests for the volunteers. Charleroi Area School District has confirmed the participation of 49 students and parents.
