    Listening to online audio reached a new peak this year, according to Infinite Dial 2024 from Edison Research. An estimated 218 million Americans, or 76% of the U.S. population, reported listening to online audio in the last month, marking a third consecutive year of growth. For the growing number who stream audio, the practice has become habitual. Seven in ten Americans now use streaming audio each week, which includes the streams of AM/FM radio and online pureplays.     Podcast listening continues to set new records as nearly 100 million American adults now say they listen to podcasts on a weekly basis. Edison Research’s annual Infinite Dial report shows just how widespread the habit is becoming, as a third of adults say they have listened to podcasts in the car – the ultimate audio environment. Driving the gains is a closing gender gap, with women not only more likely to listen to podcasts but listening to more episodes than men.     The radio deal market is quieter than at any time in most broadcasters’ memory. Just ask a broker, and they will be sure to confirm it. But new data from S&P Global Market Intelligence shows that it is not just radio where there is less deal-making. It reports North American media and telecom companies had fewer deals during February than in any month since January 2023. But in what is likely a surprise for many, five of last month’s ten biggest deals involved the purchase of radio stations.     Listen to a news, business, or tech podcast, and you’ll likely hear an ad for a product nowhere to be found in Target. The target for these business-to-business brands is the decision-makers in the executive suite, and new research from Signal Hill Insights shows that B2B brands are making a smart investment if they’re advertising on a podcast.     Radio companies big and small have had the same problem – a stock price too low for Nasdaq’s requirements. MediaCo can take solace in that. It can also take more time to get its share price back to the one-dollar minimum bid price required by the exchange. Nasdaq has notified the company its request for more time has been granted.     A former VP of Digital at “Hot 97” WQHT and WBLS New York has sued the stations’ owner, Mediaco, for alleged retaliation and discrimination in violation of New York State’s human rights and labor laws.
