Welcome to Helderstroom Alpacas

At Helderstroom we breed and raise alpacas. We also shear, card and hand spin the fibre into yarn, which is then hand knitted, woven or felted and made into a range of stylish, warm and unbelievably comfortable garments.

Alpaca is the world’s most luxurious fibre: warmer and softer than lambs’ wool, more hard-wearing and more exclusive than cashmere.
Welcome to the world of alpaca – the most eco-friendly animal fibre on the planet.

Visitors by appointment, please. Or, take a virtual tour in our picture galleries.

Products

In our studio we clean, card and handspin the fibre in the traditional way and display a range of beautifully hand knitted items for sale, made by Western Cape women.

Alpaca Info

Rare, extremely fine fibres, such as silk or cashmere, are favourites in the luxury market. But alpaca is being re-discovered, and is starting to command the top slot of all.

INTRODUCING PEPPER COTTAGE – OVERBERG ACCOMMODATION

Pepper Cottage is a fully renovated cottage originally built around 1850. Situated on a busy working alpaca farm, the cottage enjoys great views across the Bossieveld Valley and is located 10 kilometres from Villiersdorp in the Overberg.

The cottage comprises two bedrooms – one with queensize bed and the second having two twin beds. Because of the bedroom layout Pepper Cottage is ideally suited to a family of four – mum, dad and two children.

The kitchen has most appliances including gas stove, a fridge-freezer, whistling kettle, microwave, toaster, pots and pans, crockery, plenty of glasses and a central pine kitchen table and four chairs. A stoep runs almost the full length of the front with table and chairs for outside dining. We also supply a Weber gas braai.
