Tonight a pod of approximately 50 to 100 whales were hunted in Hvannasund.
This was a strange one.
The locals dragged out the process for many hours.
This evening we saw things we rarely seen.
A divided pod where half killed, and the other half scared back out to deep water as the community decided to stop in the middle of everything.
We don’t know what brought about this decision, but will keep you updated. More to come. Stay connected.

A grind has been called in the #FaroeIslands.
A pod of 50-100 pilot whales are being driven to Hvannasund.
Our crew will be there to secure documentation.

“The patrol ship Brimil found the grind around half past eleven today. It’s estimated to be about 50 to 100 whales. I expect it will be towed into Hvannasund, says Jens Jensen, the sheriff, to the North Light.
At 11:33 today, the patrol ship Brimil reported a grind east of ViĂ°oy. Grind foremen in Hvannasund and ViĂ°areiĂ°i are preparing to depart at 12:45, informs Jens Jensen.
It’s about 50 to 100 whales, and the grind is expected to be towed to Hvannasund, says Jens Jensen, sheriff for the North Light.”

The price of eating seafood year round is catching up to us, literally.
Did you know that large gill nets kill everything in their path?
With more and more depleted fish supplies, the larger and bigger the nets become.
Bycatch, such as dolphins, whales, whale sharks, vaquita, and rays get snatched up with the already depleted fish.

It’s not everyday you get to shred the very thing that has brought a species to the edge of extinction, but on this day we did.
The totoaba net is hard to describe; its material feels impossible to destroy and it often takes hours to break down one net, but it is possible.
Everyday we are faced with what looks and feels impossible, but it just appears so.

Antarctica. Full of magic and wonder. We never take for granted the life and beauty that thrive there and neither do you.
Krill is an unnecessary plunder of this majestic place and so few humans are protecting it.
