Welcome to Saint Stephen's City church Bristol

Saint Stephen’s is an ancient church at the heart of Bristol's Old City. It aspires to be a community which gathers people together; a place for those with faith, those searching and those with none. ‘Reconnecting us to God and Connecting others to God'.

Some of the links on this page will take you to our sister church Holy Trinity Hotwells’ website.

This Lent, our whole church community is invited to listen, together, for God’s voice. To listen to what God is calling us to, together, as a church community, in Bristol, today. To pay attention to how we are called to be the body of Christ in the particular way that only we can. Click here to find out more.

Bell ringing competition

We are excited to be hosting the annual twelve bells Eliminator ringing competition this year at Saint Stephen’s. This celebration of an ancient tradition is a chance to hear Saint Stephen’s historic bells in action, rung by nationally selected teams, raising funds for upkeep and improvements to the ringing chamber. We are delighted to see this tradition flourishing and to offer our bells to keep the art of ringing alive. Ringing will take place from 11am - 4pm Saturday 23rd of March, with some initial ringing at 10am to get the bells into position.

LUNCHTIME CONCERTS & Poetry Readings

This coming Monday, 25th March from 1.10 – 2.00 pm, Lunchtime Live welcome Helen Torpy (violin) and John Lambert (piano) - a wonderful pairing whose performances in past concerts were unforgettable. They will bring a programme of work by Peter Maxwell Davies and sonatas by Bach and Beethoven. For the Monday concerts the Secret Café at Saint Stephen's will be open from 12 midday for teas, coffees and cakes.

The Silver Street Poets are back on Friday 29th March at 12.30pm with Good Friday Poetry

Eco Church Bronze Award

Saint Stephen's has been awarded a Bronze award assessed against the A Rocha Eco Church scheme which offers an assessment of what we do as a church towards being sustainable and environmentally conscious. Exciting as it is to have the work that is in place acknowledged, the scheme also indicates what else we can do, and we will be working towards being an even more responsible and engaged community in this area during 2022.
