Northern Lights Viewing Packages

You should come to Alaska in the winter. No, really. You should. 600,000 Alaskans can't be wrong.

When it comes to the raw beauty, the adventure, and all the things that make Alaska one of the most special places on Earth - those things are even more amazing in the winter.

There is no shortage of adventure here in Alaska during the winter. When we talk to friends and guests about visiting here in the winter, they are often surprised and  amazed at all the different activities that are available!

Dog mushing is the state sport of Alaska, and whether you're interested in taking a one-hour ride in the basket of a dogsled, learning to drive a sled and dog team yourself, heading out on a week-long dogsled and snowmobile adventure through the Alaska Range, or following the Iditarod Sled Dog Race from Anchorage to Nome, there's a dogsledding adventure here for you.

Maybe dogsledding isn't your thing, but speed is - we can substitute the dogsled with an Irondog - the snowmobile (or as we call it here, the snowmachine). Snowmachine adventures from an hour to a week are available... and there's always our annual celebration, Arctic Man.

If you like to gather your speed from the top of a mountain rather than the back of a snowmachine, you can visit one of America's premier downhill skiing venues, Alyeska Resort. Alyeska  is notable for great snow, a long season, and also a vertical that starts at sea level and heads up to the glacier-clad peaks of the Chugach Mountains - all within a convenient and beautiful drive from Anchorage.

And if speed isn't your thing, there's always an evening soaking in a hot spring under the dancing northern lights.

You say we haven't piqued your interest yet? Well, we've just scratched the surface! A honeymoon or even a destination wedding? Flightseeing over Mt. McKinley? Whale watching? Ice sculptures? Cross-country skiing? College and professional  ice hockey? You can even catch a king salmon here in the winter.
