Background

I began my teaching career in 1982 after graduating from Loughborough University.

I taught mainly D&T, in its various guises, in a variety of schools in the West Midlands area for over 20 years. During this time, I managed various local and national projects and ran a department and faculty in inner city Birmingham.

In 2003 I took a career change to set up and run a D&T PGCE teacher training course at Staffordshire University. This has been my passion for the past 13 years. I have been responsible for teacher training in many subjects, phases and a variety of routes and have been involved in many government initiatives and local partnerships for teacher training.

During this time, I was responsible for a number of grade one Ofsted inspections of our provision whilst leading the successful expansion of teacher training at Staffordshire University.

I have managed teacher training offered at a partner SCITT provider and have developed a model of delivery that is now delivered by the HEI, SCITT and School Direct partners. The flexibility and structure of this course means schools can engage in teacher training in a variety of ways to suit individual circumstances.

In recognition of my work in the university sector, I have been recognised with numerous awards and the accolade of being a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

My varied 34 years' experience of working with pupils and adults gives me a valuable skillset and realistic understanding of training needs of teachers and schools.

My understanding and knowledge of teacher training is huge and detailed from my work in the field at a local and national level. I have written and had published a chapter in Learning to Teach in the Secondary School: A companion to school experience

In addition to Initial Teacher Education expertise in all routes to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), I also have a wealth of knowledge and experience on the D&T curriculum at all levels.

I am a D&T Association Registered Design and Technology Health and Safety Consultant (RDTHSCs) offering a variety of specialities.
