Highlight Shaybee and Essence Astarte (usuals)

A warm welcome to Essence Abyssinians’ website.

The name Essence was chosen for my Abyssinians because I wanted to develop and promote the “aby essence” rather than solely focusing on breeding for colour or type.

I have been breeding Abyssinians since I got my first Abyssinian queen Highlight Saba (usual silver) in 2006. She was going to have just the one litter….but then I got hooked! All the cats I breed have Ethiopian names that reflect their character or appearance and usually new owners choose their own pet names as a second registered name.

Highlight Saba,  Essence Astarte and  Highlight Shaybe are now retired leaving me with four breeding queens

  1. Highlight Ivory Cloud (cream silver)
  2. Highlight Pansy Sunset (sorrel tortie)
  3. Legend Ziva (chocolate)
  4. Essence Flame of Madeba (red)

All my queens are from lines tested as PKDef and PRA free and mated with either Palissy Ra Shem Tafari (red silver) or Silversmoke Quizas Quizas (fawn) (see Stud Boys)

Originally, I focused on unusual colours, such as silvers, by using Highlight Abyssinian stud boys (Highlight Tobias – cream, Depussey Silver Cymbeline – fawn silver). Following the birth of Highlight Habeba who was only the second tortie fawn silver born in the UK, I wanted to develop type as well as colour so Silvermoke Abyssinians’ stud boys were introduced: Grand Champion Makeitso Hawkeye Pierce (usual) and Grand Champion Silversmoke Bill Davison (sorrel).

Now my breeding programme includes  unusual colours (red, cream, fawn, chocolate, lilac, + silvers of those colours) as well as usuals and sorrels.

The kittens are well socialised with cats, dogs and people from an early age.  Essence kittens only go to special homes where I am sure they will be appropriately adored and cared for – and most importantly, safe with plenty of company. I offer  lifetime support to all new owners and encourage Essence Abyssinian owners to contact me regularly with photos and updates.

My cats are all in Kent (near the Channel Tunnel with its high speed train link [50 mins] to London St Pancras). I am a member of the Abyssinian Cat Club and the Abyssinian Cat Association. Many of my owners are happy to be put in touch with new or prospective owners in order to offer insights into their experiences with Essence kitten/s.
