Brazilian version now available

1The Brazilian version of The Flavour ThesaurusDicionário de Sabores – is now available, published by Casa da Palavra, and complete with brand-new entries covering specifically Brazilian combinations like carrots with chocolate, and guava with cheese.

KLANG at the Roundhouse

logo-exploreThis Thursday, the 22nd August, at the Roundhouse in Camden, the London Contemporary Orchestra will perform four pieces from Stockhausen’s KLANG, under Conrad Shawcross’s new installation, Timepiece. I was asked to ascribe a flavour to each piece of music. Roundhouse chef Jean-Baptiste Barbosa created the dishes.

Piece 1 : To be consumed before ‘Paradies’: Passion fruit stuffed with crab and mango with a small glass of tequila

Piece 2: To be consumed before ‘Balance’:  Crumbed marinated baby globe artichokes with blood orange gin

Piece 3: To be consumed before ‘Hoffnung’ during the 20 min. interval:  Celery a la Grecque with Ricard Pastis 

Piece 4: To be consumed before ‘Cosmic Pulses’ during the 15 min. interval:  Saffron mousse cake with Moscato d’Asti

Christmas signing in Covent Garden

Signing in Chelsea

If you’re in the area, and fancy picking up a signed copy of The Flavour Thesaurus for Christmas, I’ll be doing a signing at the Chelsea branch of The Conran Shop tomorrow from 4pm. It’s in the Michelin building at 81 Fulham Road, London SW3 6RD.

Swedish edition wins award

I’m honoured and delighted that the Swedish edition of The Flavour Thesaurus, Smaklexikon, published by Forma Books and translated by Tove Jansson Borglund, has won best translated reference book at the Måltidsakademien Food Writing Awards 2012.
